CleverBoxes Director | Teresa Yerkes to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for charity

The gruelling challenge of climbing Africa’s highest mountain awaits a warm-hearted Sabden housewife.

Teresa Yerkess is preparing to conquer 19340ft Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for charity after hearing that the young son of a customer was suffering from a rare and terminal disease.

Teresa, a company director at Accrington-based IT providers Cleverboxes, will attempt the adventurous seven-day trek in September in aid of ‘One Can Make A Difference’, a charity which raises awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

And the 37-year-old mother of three, who will be accompanied on the walk by her close friend Rachael Stones, is also planning to host a summer ball at Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park stadium on July 9th as part of her valiant fundraising efforts.www.justgiving.com/Teresa-Yerkess

“This climb is the most challenging thing I have ever attempted, but if I can raise awareness about this fatal disease and help suffering families then that would be fantastic,” said Teresa.

She decided to undertake the demanding trek after being told that the son of one of Cleverboxes’ business clients was suffering from the terminal muscle wasting condition.

Tony and Tracy, whose five-year-old son Joey was diagnosed with the incurable disease aged just 18 months old, set up the OCMAD charity in 2007.

As part of her training for the big event, Teresa will walk in Snowdonia with husband Vernon in May: “I am currently walking around 30 miles a week as part of the preparation, but it is all well worth the effort.

“Tracy and Tony are such lovely people and they have stayed so positive despite their difficulties. Climbing Kilimanjaro is nothing compared to their everyday torment.”

Global Hard Drive Shortage – Thailand Flooding

Posted by Sarge

As you may, or may not be aware, Thailand has recently suffered it's worst flooding in decades, which have been devastating to the country and it's economy, one of the effects of this is a global shortage of hard drives in the IT Storage industry, with the vast majority of hard drive manufacturers badly affected.

At this uncertain time it is almost impossible for us to know on a day-to-day basis what is happening with stocks of hard drives, with almost all manufacturers and distribution companies issuing warnings that they will not support prices on a daily basis, and in some instances pricing is creeping up at least once or twice daily.

As an aside from this all distribution channels are limiting the amount of stock that reselllers, such as ourselves can buy, with volume purchases being refused.

In this current climate CleverBoxes are unable to guarantee the prices or quantities of stock that are advertised on our website, due to the unstable nature of the information provided by our suppliers.

Similarly, if you place an order for large quantities of hard drives, please do not be surprised if we are unable to fulfil your order.

This situation is unlikely to be resolved until at least the second quarter of 2012, when it is thought the manufacturing plants will come back on line.

This could potentially have a knock-on effect in other areas of the IT industry, so please be mindful of this should one of our representatives call you to discuss the outcome of an order.

Thank you for your time and understanding in this matter.

Apple iPad 2 – Thinner, lighter, and full of great ideas.

Apple iPad 2 - Thinner, lighter, and full of great ideas.

Once you pick up iPad 2, it’ll be hard to put down. That’s the idea behind the all-new design. It’s 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands.2 And it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there’s incredible technology under your fingers.

Dual-core A5 chip.

It’s fast, times two.Two powerful cores in one A5 chip mean iPad can do twice the work at once. You’ll notice the difference when you’re surfing the web, watching movies, making FaceTime video calls, gaming, and going from app to app to app. Multitasking is smoother, apps load faster, and everything just works better.

Two cameras. And a big hello to FaceTime for iPad.

You’ll see two cameras on iPad — one on the front and one on the back. They may be tiny, but they’re a big deal. They’re designed for FaceTime video calling, and they work together so you can talk to your favorite people and see them smile and laugh back at you.3 The front camera puts you and your friend face-to-face. Switch to the back camera during your video call to share where you are, who you’re with, or what’s going on around you. When you’re not using FaceTime, let the back camera roll if you see something movie-worthy. It’s HD, so whatever you shoot is a mini-masterpiece. And you can take wacky snapshots in Photo Booth. It’s the most fun a face can have.

Superfast graphics.Go, gamers, go.

With up to nine times the graphics performance, gameplay on iPad is even smoother and more realistic. And faster graphics help apps perform better — especially those with video. You’ll see it when you’re scrolling through your photo library, editing video with iMovie, and viewing animations in Keynote.

Battery life keeps on going. So you can, too.

Even with the new thinner and lighter design, iPad has the same amazing 10-hour battery life.1 That’s enough juice for one flight across the ocean, or one movie-watching all-nighter, or a week’s commute across town. The power-efficient A5 chip and iOS keep battery life from fading away, so you can get carried away.

iPad Smart Cover. Designed for iPad. And vice versa.

iPad 2 and the iPad Smart Cover are made for each other. Literally.4 We designed the iPad Smart Cover to work side-by-side with iPad — and on top and underneath it, too. Smart magnetic technology built into each really pulls them together. The iPad Smart Cover falls perfectly into place and stays put to protect your iPad screen, yet doesn’t add bulk to its thin, light design. Open the Smart Cover and your iPad wakes up instantly. Close it and your iPad goes to sleep automatically. And here’s another smart part: It transforms into the perfect movie-watching, game-playing, web-surfing stand. It comes in 10 bright colors — including five in rich, aniline-dyed Italian leather.5 Choose your favorite, and your iPad will be smart all around.

HP TouchPad Announced! FB405UA - HP TouchPad 16Gb Wi-Fi

Finally after months of expectation and rumour, HP has finally announced their eagerly awaited HP TouchPad. Call 01254 238 749 for more information. (We are taking pre-orders)

Powered by the latest version of the multi-tasking webOS 3.0 operating system, which HP inherited from purchasing Palm last year and a 1.2Ghz dual-core SnapDragon CPU, the HP TouchPad really stands apart from the Apple iPad and a sea of the same "Powered by Android" tablets that are currently available.

If you put the HP TouchPad and the Apple iPad side by side you would be forgiven for thinking they were somehow separated at birth as they both share the same sized 9.7" colour touch screen and the tablet housings are decidedly similar. Switch both tablets on though and the story changes significantly as the HP TouchPad starts to make the Apple iPad look and feel decidedly last year.

webOS 3.0 is a true multi-tasking operating system and allows the user of the HP TouchPad to simply flick between applications that are currently running. webOS 3.0 also supports "Touch To Share" which allows the transfer of text, websites, music and emails between the HP TouchPad and the newly announced HP Veer and Pre 3 mobile phones.

Hardware wise, the HP TouchPad is a real next generation power house. Along with the already mentioned 1.2Ghz dual-core SnapDragon CPU is 16Gb or 32Gb RAM, a front facing 1.3 megapixel webcam with support for  video conferencing, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, A-GPS (3G model only) and a stereo sound system powered by HP's Beats audio engine.

Out of the box will be the new panelled email application, Skype calling, VPN access, wireless printing with HP's ePrint range of printers, access to the Amazon Kindle eBook store as well as Google Docs and QuickOffice support.

On the accessories front, there's a case/stand (which includes a handy flip-out kickstand for desk use), a wireless keyboard  and a new Touchstone dock that enables all of the wireless communication magic between webOS devices.

Launching in the summer with a Wi-Fi only version, a Wi-Fi+3G version will launch closely after. HP have yet to confirm pricing and an exact launch date but expect pricing to be competitive with the much rumoured Apple iPad2 which is due around the same time.

Keep your eyes on the CleverBoxes.com website as we are sure to be one of the first companies in the UK to have stock of this super charged tablet.
